                                            Am I Alone?
                                             Chapter 1
Lawrence Archenburg would've been in a brighter mood on any other day, but today was different. He wouldn't be waking up in his comfortable bed, he wouldn't be waking up in his own home. He woke up on a dark, damp, putrid smelling wooden floor. He sat up and looked around, he could see nothing, if he had tried putting his own hand up in front of his face he'd still see nothing.

"Where am I...?" He mumbled in a slightly irritated and confused tone.
He looked up on the table next to him, there was a small flashlight, he grabbed it immediately and flicked it on, the beam now illumanting quite a bit. He looked around the room, the windows were boarded up to a point no sunlight would flow in. Not even the tiniest ray.

The room smelled heavily rank, he buried his face into his shirt, the smell was unbearable. But that wasn't the only thing that was putting him into a foul mood. His train of thought wandered to one thing. Who had brought him to such a place? Why was he there?

He shook off the questions going through his head all at once, it was making him more and more irritated. He got up and searched around the room for something, anything that he could employ as a weapon. The building looked as old as it smelled. There was an axe in a glass case along the wall, for emergencies. He looked at it for a minute before drawing back an arm to smash the glass. He struck it and pulled his hand back writhing in pain. The glass showed no sign of damage.

"... What... the...?" He sat there confused, why had the glass not shattered, why had it not crumbled from his strike, he got a closer look, the glass was a lot thicker then it looked. He needed something more then his fist to break the glass, one of the chairs at the table looked like it was tough enough to smash through it and then some.
Lawrence picked up the chair and glared at the glass case with such intensity. He rushed the case and slammed the chair into it, with all the strength he had, this time it cracked a but didn't give, he slammed the now bent up steel chair into the ground in frustration.

"Okay... What more do I need for this...?" Lawrence questioned to himself as he searched around the room. Lawrence didn't find much to use, the only thing he could think of next was picking up the table itself. But he'd rather give it a shot then walk out into those hallways to meet whoever had him trapped in his words "This shitty situation."
He picked up the table and took a deep breath, he rushed forward with the table and slammed it hard into the glass, it had finally given way, he cleared the glass and took the axe from its hold.

"Time to introduce this to the face of the idiots who brought me here..." He mumbled again before attaching the flashlight to his belt keeping it pointed forward. He carefully approached the door, sweat running down his forehead, he hesitated as he reached for the door knob. "... Come Lawrence, you didn't just break through that reinforced glass to get an axe for no reason..." He mumbled once more.

He opened the door and stepped out into the hall, he knew that once he was out there, there was no going back to that room, he'd die before he'd do that. He looked to his left and already knew what way was a dead end. He also noticed pieces of metal and junk laying around blocking the way. The smell coming from it made him want to be sick, it was covered in mold as well. He put up his shirt over his nose once more.
"Can't wait til I get out of here now..."

He carefully walked down the hall, he could feel that someone was close by, his heart pounded, he started to sweat again, he shook slightly, the fear coursed through his entire body making him shake.

'Get it together!' He chastised himself  for a brief moment, irritated with his own cowardice. He then looked up when he had heard something around the corner. The fear now sinking in even more as he could hear it getting closer. He leaned out from behind the corner and looked down the hall with the flashlight, ready to raise the axe the second he seen someone coming.

Nothing was there, but yet he could hear the sound of movement, but it didn't exactly sound like the sound of a man's foot steps, it sounded more like, something like a knife being stabbed and ripped out of the wall in rapid repitition.

Lawrence stood there confused, the sound was close yet he saw nothing, nothing until he heard that very hiss, and looked up to see a human face, twisted in a formation that even a man of evil would quiver and vomit at the sight of. The creature's body was that of a lizard's with claws sharper and larger then that of a bears. But what Lawrence noticed most, was the pitch, black souless eyes it stared down at him with.

Lawrence fought back the urge to scream at the top of his lungs. But the creature let out its own terrifying scream before it lunged at Lawrence. He immediately dived out of the way and got to his feet quickly turning around to face the creature, it looked ready to lunge once more. Wasting no time Lawrence brought down the axe upon the creatures spine, it let out a ear piercing scream as the axe connected with its spine. But it still moved.

Lawrence stared briefly in shock and horror before ripping the axe out and kicking it back as it went to swipe at his right leg. He managed to kick it hard enough to knock it on its back, taking the time to see that as his advantage he brought the axe down upon its head as he screamed in a combination of fear and anger, splitting it in two and spraying a black blood-like solution all over him.

He stared in shock at what he had done and what he had just killed, questions raced through his mind once again, he felt himself shaking once more, he felt dizzy, it was all too much for him to take in, what he had killed was not human, it was far from anything to be considered human.

"Jesus... f-fucking Christ!" He swore the shock still running through him and freezing up the blood in his veins. He leaned against the wall trying to wipe the blood off of his face.

He sat down for a few minutes to get himself together, the horror finally settling in on what had just happened. The situation wasn't pretty, his worry was no longer on wondering who had brought him here, it was replaced with the worry of how many more were in the building with him, how many floors would he be fighting through and what else lay in wait for him.

Lawrence shook off the questions, he knew there would probably be no answers,  he was the only one in here after all right? Besides the creatures that is. He was alone. He was afraid. And his nerves were severely riding his ass. Things weren't going to be easy that way and he knew it.

He looked down the hall that he was now slowly heading down, he could see at the end of the hallway another fork, he hated choosing left or right. Once there, he looked left and then he looked to the right. Both ways gave him that feeling in your gut when you know its a shit sandwich which ever way you chew it. He stood there for a few seconds before he heard a loud hiss, a hiss he would have rather not heard again.

It was another one of those creatures, it must've heard its friend scream and come running. He raised the axe and looked up on the ceilings and walls from which the hiss came, the creature was really trucking down the hallway after him. He readied the axe but was caught off guard as the creature lunged and tackled him to the ground. Lawrence swore and cursed and spat as he held the creature back with the handle of the axe. The creature itself flailing trying to get passed the axe in order to bite out Lawrence's throat.

"GET OFF OF YOU UGLY BASTARD!" Lawrence cursed, spitting into the creature's face before putting a black tennis shoe right to its gut and kicking it off of him. He looked on his shoulder to see three claw marks had been left. He got up and walked over and stomped down on the creature as it was attempting to get off of its back and raised the axe once more.

He brought the axe up and brought it down onto the creature's neck, lopping off its head and spraying blood all over the walls and him. He wiped his face of the blood onto his already blood soaked green t-shirt and continued on, trying not to think about if there were more around there once again. The cuts on his shoulder writhed in pain, he was lucky the creature had only scraped his shoulder. Who knows what a full clawing from one of the creatures could do to him.

After a couple of minutes he eventually reached a staircase and made his way down it to the floor below, he hoped he was going the right way, and not into the basement. He had a fear of going into the basements of other houses, hell he was even wary of his own basement. He never trusted them.

As he reached the end of the stairway's hall, he stopped and looked along the walls of the next turn. Frozen still Lawrence could see blood on the wall but it wasn't just the blood that had him frozen stiff, there were things written in blood, everything there that was written was directed at him.

"You'll never leave here alive mortal!!"

"You will not live to see the light of day Lawrence, we can promise you that."

"Just die you pathetic little shit of a worm!"

"You will rot here like the rest before you!"

The walls were covered in these messages, the creatures were trying to drown any hope of escaping for him. His morale took a slight blow but not enough to stop him from trying. He wasn't ready to just give up. Things looked shitty but what good would he accomplish if he didn't try?

Lawrence continued carefully along the hallway, his shoulder still botherng him. He wished he had kicked that creature off of him sooner, he once more shook off the what if bullshit and sighed to himself. What was he gonna do when he got out of here, who could he tell? No one would necessarily believe him would they?
"Only time will tell..."

Lawrence scolded himself, he had a nasty habit of talking to himself sometimes when he was thinking really hard about something.
Lawrence had seen no doors up until this hallway, most of the doors were covered in blood claw marks. Most of them making him feel very unsure about going in. But maybe there was something else he could use.

He approached the first door to his left, opening it carefully, the room he looked into was covered in blood worse then the hall was, but the smell was worse. Lawrence let go of the door handle and covered his mouth as he started to gag. The smell was more rank then the creatures themselves.

"Okay... Get it together Lawrence, beggers can't be choosers in this situation, suck it up..." He carefully approached the room once more and opened the door all the way, looking around the room he could see limbs that would belong to a human body instead of one of the creatures, there were others here before him. Some of the limbs had big chunks of flesh missing, obviously the creatures had to eat something...

As Lawrence turned he heard something drop to the ground, he quickly rushed to open the door but before he could get out in time he was tackled from behind, another creature had been waiting for him in the shadows and to open the door. He elbowed it three times in the face and managed to throw it off of his back without sustaining any marks from its razor sharp claws. The creature was off its back quickly, and Lawrence was to his feet.
Lawrence waited for it to make its move, but the creature stood there watching him, with the pitch black eyes that belonged to its twisted human like face.

'Is he waiting for me to do something...?' Lawrence decided to put that theory to the test and went for an over head swing with his axe, the creature dodged the strike and pinned Lawrence against the wall snapping at his face as he used the axe to keep the distance between him in the creature, finally kicking it off of him, wasting no time to kill it, Lawrence brought the axe down on its neck, taking the creature's head clean off in one cut. He slumped against the wall exhausted to the bone.

Whatever was going on, it was only the beginning, there would probably be worse waiting in the floors below. He just hoped that the Axe would be enough for him.
This is the newest story I've been working on, I hope you all enjoy like always, I certainly enjoyed writing it for you all. ^^

I'll be working on the next chapter in a bit. Til then, I hope this is to your liking everyone.

This would make an interesting premise for a video game. Can't wait to see what you write next!
